On Wednesday, 21 December, the “Vlada Divljan” Cultural Centre was the venue where, through a New Year’s charity performance, Savremena’s students and employees gave a warm welcome to numerous guests and wished them luck in the new year.

The attendees had a wonderful time and enjoyed the unforgettable “A New Year Night’s Dream” performed by the students who showed what it would look like if Shakespeare’s characters lived in the modern age. The students’ talent and effort were rewarded with a thunderous round of applause by the audience who filled the venue.

New Year's Performance

A truly different ending of the year

The school principal Svetlana Belić Malinić greeted the guests and wished them a warm welcome, inviting Savremena’s teachers to join her on the stage and introducing them as a hard-working “red army” responsible for all the accomplishments in the previous year. The guests were particularly astonished by Savremena’s students’ unusual video greetings. The scenes in the video brought many smiles and a thunderous applause, but also a few tears of joy in the audience.

Young actors delight the audience

The students had prepared an excellent show for their guests and performed the unforgettable play “A New Year Night’s Dream” in which they had put all their talent and effort.

With their truly different performance, Ivan Filip Kovačević, Aleksa Cvetković, Iva Šušić, Nikola Krečković, Marija Kaninski, Kristina Jokanović, Jelisaveta Nedeljković, Jakov Travica, Ivan Stojanović, Dušan Đorić, Đorđe Taševski, Jovana Mijailović, Dunja Nešković, Iva Radunović, Tara Papić, Mina Vučićević, Ana Jeremić, Anđela Milojević and extras Iva Jevđenijević, Katarina Matijašević, Isidora Ivančević and Ljubica Vojinović showed what it’s like when Shakespeare’s characters find themselves in modern times.

A special touch to the event was given by the fantastic Ana Vujović, Jelena Božanić, Viktor Đurić, Nikola Kuzmanović, Aleksandar Kosanović and Petar R. Živković, who enriched the play with music and singing, and amazed everyone with their breathtaking performance.

Delighted by the play, the audience talked about it for days after the performance, recollected the most interesting lines and admired the talent, charm and charisma of Savremena’s actors.

Shakespeare’s plays with a modern twist

The audience found Shakespeare’s characters gathered at a New Year’s Eve party. Their hopes and dreams about the unforgettable party and their love stories were thwarted by evil witches, and the only ones who were able to confront the evil were the fairies who managed to restore love and harmony on New Year’s Eve.

Despite stage fright due to performing in front of a large audience, the students showed they were ready to deal with the task, cope with numerous challenges and use their talent to tackle any obstacle.

Funds raised for new smiles on children’s faces

Savremena’s students have once again shown their compassion. They sold their handmade Christmas candles and decorations and, in a single evening, raised as much as 38,000 dinars, which Savremena will make sure to forward to those in need.

The fact that the visitors also bought the New Year presents after the performance, even though it hadn’t been planned, shows a great interest in the sale.

Applause keeps reverberating even after the performance

The theatrical and musical performance and the charity event delighted the visitors, and the talent of our students guarantees their future performances will be eagerly expected.

We would like to congratulate the actors and participants one more time. We are looking forward to whatever they decide to prepare for us next!
