Year 12 and Year 13 Economics students, accompanied by their teacher Marija Milić, recently visited the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, where they took part in a series of engaging and insightful presentations designed especially for them.

Understanding the Role of Official Statistics

The visit began with an introduction to the work and significance of the Statistical Office. Ms Ana Tošić presented the institution’s key functions, explaining how official data is collected, processed, and made accessible to the public.

Particular attention was given to the “Statistics for Beginners” segment, which helped students understand how complex data can be presented in a clear and user-friendly way, making it accessible to a wider audience.

Exploring Labour Market Data

As part of the programme, Ms Maja Petrović delivered a detailed presentation on the Labour Force Survey. Through real examples, students gained a clearer understanding of how employment and unemployment data are collected, analysed, and interpreted. This session provided valuable insight into how key economic indicators are formed and why they are essential for understanding economic trends and policymaking.

The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Modern Statistics

One of the most engaging parts of the visit was the presentation by Ms Jelena Petrović, who introduced students to the growing role of artificial intelligence in the field of statistics. Students learned how AI tools are being used to improve data search, processing, and analysis, making statistical information more accessible, efficient, and relevant in today’s data-driven world.
