Year 2 students at International School explored the world of colour through a creative art activity focused on the three primary colours: red, yellow and blue.

Using paint, brushes and plenty of imagination, students experimented with these bold colours and created their own vibrant artworks. The activity gave them the opportunity to observe how primary colours work together while also expressing their ideas through shape, composition and design.

Learning Through Colour

Working with primary colours helped students build a stronger understanding of one of the basic concepts of art. By focusing on red, yellow and blue, they explored how a limited colour palette can still produce striking and expressive results.

The task also encouraged careful observation and decision-making. Students considered where to place each colour, how to balance different areas of their artwork and how simple choices can completely change the final composition.

Creativity in Action

Painting is also an excellent way for young learners to develop fine motor skills, concentration and confidence. As they worked, Year 2 students practised controlling their brushes, planning their designs and making independent creative choices.

Each finished piece was different, reflecting the student’s own ideas and approach. The classroom quickly filled with bright colours, imaginative shapes and plenty of enthusiasm.

Through this hands-on activity, Year 2 students discovered that learning about art is not only about recognising colours, but also about experimenting, creating and turning ideas into something uniquely their own.
