Our students recently had the opportunity to visit the PTT Museum, accompanied by their class teacher, Maja Milosavljević. This educational visit offered them a fascinating insight into the development of communication throughout history and showed them how messages travelled before the digital age.
Discovering How People Communicated Through Time
During the visit, students explored the many ways in which people exchanged information across different historical periods. They learned how messages were once carried by Tatar messengers, horses, and carrier pigeons, and how later inventions such as the telegraph, telephone exchanges, and early landline telephones transformed communication. Through the museum’s exhibits, students were able to follow the path from traditional forms of message delivery to the technologies that gradually shaped the modern systems we rely on today.
From Messengers to Mobile Phones
The visit helped students understand how much communication has changed over the centuries. What once required days, weeks, or even months can now be done instantly with a mobile phone. By observing different objects, devices, and historical examples, students gained a clearer understanding of how technological progress has influenced the way people connect, share information, and stay in touch.
An Interactive Museum Experience
One of the most exciting moments of the visit was a special interactive activity organised for the students. They had the opportunity to have their photographs taken and transformed into personalised postage stamps featuring their own portraits.
These unique stamps were then printed on postcards, giving each student a creative and memorable souvenir from the museum visit. This activity made the experience even more engaging and helped students connect with the topic in a fun and personal way.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Educational visits such as this one play an important role in helping students expand their knowledge beyond textbooks and classroom lessons. By experiencing history in an authentic museum setting, students are able to better understand the past and connect it with the world they live in today.
The visit to the PTT Museum was a wonderful opportunity for students to learn, explore, and discover how communication has developed from simple message delivery to the advanced digital technologies of the modern world.
