To celebrate World Computer Literacy Day, Year 8 students took part in an interdisciplinary lesson led by Robotics teacher Maja Milosavljević and Digital Literacy teacher Marko Nikolić.
The lesson explored the differences between formal and informal online communication, encouraging students to reflect on how their tone and style change depending on the context. Since emoticons are an essential element of informal digital communication, the teachers introduced students to the micro:bit, a small programmable device perfect for hands-on learning.
Students were actively engaged as they used the micro:bit to create emoticons representing both happy and sad faces. Through this activity, they not only practiced coding and creativity but also deepened their understanding of how emotions are conveyed in digital spaces.
This interdisciplinary approach successfully connected communication skills with practical technology use, making the celebration of World Computer Literacy Day both meaningful and fun for Year 8 students.
