School stories

Year 9 students recently took part in a Global Perspectives lesson, led by their teacher Miloš Slavković, which was enriched by a guest presentation delivered by Hana Jurenić, a Year 13 student. Hana’s presentation was both informative and highly engaging, encouraging students to think critically about the roots and consequences of gender inequality in different societies. The lesson was interactive throughout, with students actively participating both individually and in groups, sharing their perspectives, asking questions, and proposing possible solutions to this important global issue.

The session fit perfectly into the Global Perspectives curriculum, as Year 9 students had previously analysed and evaluated a range of sources related to gender inequality. Building on this foundation, Hana’s presentation helped deepen their understanding and provided real-world context to the topic.

Opportunities like this highlight the importance of open discussion and debate on diverse global issues, particularly on topics as significant as gender equality. Encouraging students to exchange ideas, challenge viewpoints, and respectfully debate complex issues helps them develop critical thinking, communication skills, and global awareness – key competencies for responsible global citizens.

We are proud to see senior students like Hana taking initiative and contributing meaningfully to the learning experiences of younger peers, fostering a collaborative and intellectually stimulating school environment.
