School stories

Year 4 students at International School combined outdoor learning with artistic expression through an engaging autumn-themed activity. By collecting natural materials from a local park and using them to create their own artwork, students had the opportunity to explore the changing seasons while developing their creativity and observation skills.

Connecting Classroom Learning with Nature

During their visit to the park, students collected leaves of different shapes, sizes and colours, along with other seasonal materials such as conkers. Back in the classroom, they used their collections to create autumn-inspired artwork, carefully arranging and combining natural elements into individual compositions.

The activity encouraged students to observe the characteristics of different leaves, recognise seasonal changes and explore the variety of colours, shapes and textures found in their natural surroundings. Through this hands-on approach, students connected their observations of the environment with creative expression.

Developing Creativity Through Practical Learning

In addition to encouraging artistic expression, the activity supported the development of fine motor skills, concentration and independent thinking. Students made their own creative decisions, experimented with different arrangements and developed an appreciation for the natural materials available in their environment.

By integrating outdoor exploration with classroom activities, International School continues to promote a learning environment in which curiosity, creativity and practical experiences contribute to students’ overall development.
