School stories

Recently, International School organised a series of informative and supportive workshops for parents, held on December 25, 26, and 29, with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the school and families and providing parents with a deeper understanding of the academic journey of their children. The first workshop, titled “Cambridge Exam Regulations”, was led by Jelena Mihajlov, Exams Officer and English teacher. This session focused on official Cambridge examinations and provided parents with clear and detailed information about grading systems, exam structures, assessment requirements, syllabuses, and teachers’ schemes of work. Parents had the opportunity to gain valuable insight into how students are assessed and what is expected of them throughout the academic year.

The second workshop, “University Applications”, was delivered by Lara Filipović, School Counsellor and School Psychologist. During this session, parents were guided through the university application process, including an overview of required documentation and timelines. Special attention was given to widely used application platforms such as UCAS, BridgeU, and the Common App, helping parents better understand how to support their children during this important stage of their education.

The final workshop, “Help Your Child Study at Home”, was led by Dušanka Anđelović, School Pedagogue. This session focused on practical strategies and ideas parents can use to support their children’s learning at home. Parents were introduced to structured study plans shared with students, as well as key characteristics and expectations of the Cambridge International programme, with an emphasis on developing independence, responsibility, and effective study habits.

The workshops were well received and proved to be highly beneficial for parents, offering both practical guidance and a clearer understanding of the educational framework within which their children are learning. Parents expressed a strong interest in having these workshops repeated, which gives the school additional motivation to continue this practice and further involve parents in school life, recognizing the importance of a strong school – parent partnership in supporting student success.
