Year 8 students recently took part in an interdisciplinary lesson led jointly by Soft Skills teacher, Marko Nikolić, and Psychology teacher, Lara Filipović. Building upon the Soft Skills topic of empathy, which students had been exploring in previous classes, this lesson aimed to elevate their understanding by connecting empathy with key psychological concepts related to emotions.
The lesson focused on advancing students’ theoretical knowledge to a higher level – specifically, on recognizing emotions, both their own and those of others. Through real-life examples and personal memories, students discussed how emotions are experienced, what physical sensations accompany them, and how it is possible to feel multiple emotions at the same time.
The teachers also helped students connect different emotions with facial expressions, encouraging them to notice how certain feelings can be seen on someone’s face. In addition, students discussed simple guiding questions that supported them in better understanding emotions and becoming more aware of how they and others feel.
This interdisciplinary approach provided students with valuable insights into the complexity of emotions, strengthening both their emotional intelligence and interpersonal understanding.
