International School carefully designed the Cambridge Primary curriculum with the choice of subjects to create a rich, balanced approach to teaching and learning that develops confident learners, creative thinkers, and caring global citizens – ready for every challenge the future holds.

Here is a more detailed overview of the International School Cambridge International Primary programme.

English Language

At the heart of every child’s success is the power of language. English language nurtures confident young communicators who learn to read fluently, write with creativity, and express their ideas clearly. Through stories, poetry, drama, and interactive activities, students develop a love of literature while building a strong foundation in grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension. English lessons ignite imagination and encourage children to become lifelong readers and articulate thinkers.

Global Perspectives

Global Perspectives inspires curiosity about the world. Children explore big questions about communities, the environment, cultures, and values, learning to see issues through multiple viewpoints. Collaborative projects and discussions help them think critically, respect diversity, and build teamwork skills. It’s a subject where children learn not only about the world, but also about their place in it as thoughtful, responsible citizens. Global Perspectives provides project-based learning opportunities for students, which allows them to acquire a world-ready set of skills.

Mathematics

Mathematics turns numbers and shapes into tools for problem-solving and discovery. Through games, challenges, and real-life applications, students gain confidence in arithmetic, geometry, and reasoning. From understanding shapes to solving puzzles, maths is presented as both fun and meaningful. We aim to spark curiosity, so children learn not just how to calculate, but how to think.

Art and Design

Creativity has no limits in Art and Design. Students experiment with colours, textures, and techniques while expressing their individuality. They learn about famous artists, global traditions, and design principles, but most importantly, they learn that their own ideas matter and how their aesthetic approach impacts the world around them. Each project celebrates imagination, helping children build confidence, fine motor skills, and a lifelong appreciation of art.

Digital Literacy

In today’s world, digital skills are essential. Digital literacy empowers students to use technology with confidence and creativity in a safe and controlled environment. They learn safe online practices, how to research and present information, and even explore coding and multimedia design. Lessons encourage children to see the world of technology not only as a tool but as a space for innovation and problem-solving.

Humanities

Humanities connect the past, present, and future. Children dive into history, geography, and social studies, discovering how people, places, and events shape the world. From ancient civilizations to modern challenges, students learn to ask questions, explore maps, and understand cultures. It’s a journey that builds empathy, critical thinking, and a deeper connection to the global community.

Music

Music lessons bring rhythm and harmony into the school week. Students sing, play instruments, and explore musical traditions from around the world. They learn about rhythm, melody, and performance while developing coordination, teamwork, and confidence. Music becomes both a joyful expression and a universal language that connects hearts and minds.

Science

Science turns curiosity into discovery. Students investigate the wonders of the natural world through hands-on experiments, observations, and inquiry. From plants and animals to forces and materials, they learn to ask questions, test ideas, and think like young scientists. Each lesson fuels curiosity, problem-solving skills, and a deeper appreciation of how the world works.

Physical Education

At International School, we believe that active bodies support active minds. Physical Education encourages teamwork, resilience, and a healthy lifestyle. Through sports, games, and fitness activities, children build coordination, strength, and confidence. PE is not only about exercise, it’s about learning to respect others, set goals, and celebrate achievements, big and small, while also promoting healthy habits and nutrition from an early age.

Wellbeing

Wellbeing supports every child’s emotional and social growth. Lessons focus on self-awareness, resilience, empathy, and mindfulness, helping students develop the skills to handle challenges with confidence. Children learn how to build positive relationships, care for their mental health, and cultivate kindness. Wellbeing is the foundation for happy, balanced learners, bringing mindfulness into their everyday lives.

Serbian Language

International School additionally enriched the Cambridge Primary curriculum by implementing Serbian lessons for both native speakers and for those students who are joining us from abroad. Serbian language is not just about the grammar, but also about learning about the Serbian culture, food, literature, music and traditions. At International School, we believe that it is important for native students to continue the development of their language and vocabulary, just as it is important for non-native speakers to learn more about the country they live in.
