The best school year at Savremena International School has begun – not on the first of September, when the school year officially starts, but a day earlier.
Principal Svetlana Belić Malinić, along with all school personnel, wanted to facilitate the students’ encounter with the new environment and make the start of the school year truly different and special.
At the entrance, teaching coordinators Ana and Monika greeted the students with presents and uniforms, directing them toward the amphitheatre. After the principal’s welcome, it was time to introduce the teachers. To make the first encounter between the students and their future mentors more interesting, the teachers tried to express their professions in riddles, and the students’ task was to guess who teaches what.
Đorđe Trišović stated that with his help, they would be able to discuss fashion with Heidi Klum, sports with Bastian Schweinsteiger, and politics with Angela Merkel. With some assistance, they guessed that he is the German language teacher.
Sanja Bogdanović’s riddle was somewhat easier: “With me, you will be able to travel through time, discover the secrets of the past, and understand how events changed the world. I am your teacher of…”; the students finished the sentence easily – she is the history teacher.
Technology in the service of knowledge
Getting to know one another and the teachers continued in Savremena classrooms, with the students divided into groups. The task was to find a hidden iPad, and afterwards, the students were asked to state their vision.
“How do you imagine the ideal school? What do you expect to do during this school year?”
“Modern knowledge, state of the art technology, making friends, a different kind of teaching, discipline, good relationship with the teachers, knowledge that will help me in life, travelling…” – those were only some of the answers the students wrote on the iPad, using the Brainstorm app. The first workshop with Savremena teachers was realised successfully, and the students’ responses were saved for future reference. The use of state of the art teaching tools made this “interview” interesting and started the process of interaction between students and teachers which we are sure will be great! The students shortly received the passwords for their accounts, and upon login – a welcome email from the principal.
We reward knowledge and quality
With everyone back at the amphitheatre, the principal awarded diplomas to the most successful students at our school. We recognise talent and support its development. Savremena International School set motivating the students to achieve extraordinary results in all areas as its primary task. The number of young people who received our scholarships proves it.
An interesting start
The first encounter with the new school was not stressful for the students, which was the goal of everyone working at Savremena International School. The beginning of the school year will be marked by various activities designed to bring the students and the teachers closer together and let them get to know one another. The first public lesson outdoors, spent cruising along the Sava and the Danube, is set to be followed by a sport day at Ada, as well as a “hidden treasure quest” at Kalemegdan.
The adventure has begun!
