School stories

Students and teachers of Savremena International School and ITHS – Information Technology High School – celebrated Halloween together for the first time on 31 October, by throwing a great party at Bitef Art Cafe.

Week of “horror” crowned by a “hellish” party

Thanks to the creativity of our students and their teachers, Bitef Art Cafe was decorated in the spirit of the scariest day of the year. Savremena’s students and teachers were skilfully hidden behind various masks and costumes, so it was extremely difficult to recognise all those witches, vampires, mythical creatures, film or book characters.

Savremena International School started the preparations for the Halloween party on time. The pumpkins were carved diligently, the decorations done thoroughly and with imagination and anticipation, and every detail matched the spirit of this holiday. So, instead of regular appetisers, the guests could savour the mozzarella ‘eyes’ or delicious ‘spiders’ – canapés, while the school band elevated the spirits and impressed everybody with their musical skills and talent.

Rewards for outstanding costumes

Due to tough competition, the jury found it really difficult to pick the best costume. However, the scariest costumes were made by Anđela Topalović and Jana Marinović from Savremena, and Lazar Lazić and David Galić from ITHS.

The originality award went to Igor Mitrović, whereas the prize for the most creative costume went to Kristina Jokanović.

Ljubica Krstić, English and Global Perspectives teacher, amazed everyone with her corpse bride costume and deservedly won the best costume title among teachers, which she shared with Aleksandra Prokopijević, a teacher from ITHS.

Notwithstanding the prizes, the greatest acknowledgement was that all the effort and creativity paid off.

A tradition both unusual and fun

This is the second time Savremena has organised its “awful“ Halloween party. Since it is important to preserve what is creative, fun and unusual, this tradition will continue next year, when students and teachers will once more hang out with supernatural, otherworldly, spooky, creepy creatures.

We are already looking forward to next year’s party and new imaginative costumes!
