School stories

On Thursday, 27 October, Savremena International School’s students met poet, novelist, short story writer and playwright Simo Potkonjak at their school, and discussed various subjects with the writer.

An interesting interchange between the students and the writer

Simo Potkonjak’s bibliography is quite extensive, so the two-hour meeting was sufficient to cover only some of his works. The poet selected a number of his youth-oriented poems to read to the students; after the reading, the students talked about the school life and their reading habits, and presented Savremena International School, pointing out the advantages of modern learning.

In addition to his creative endeavours, Simo Potkonjak works at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia; he shared his impressions concerning education with Savremena’s students, and exchanged opinions on the importance of modern approaches to teaching with them.

The importance of poetry for enriching one’s vocabulary

With visits like this one, Savremena International School strives to bring contemporary authors closer to its students, providing opportunities for the students to meet writers in person and fully realise that poetry is not a thing of the past, but a part of their reality and their own times. Savremena’s students understand it, and welcome every chance to spend time with successful authors such as Simo Potkonjak.
